Started to prepare the car for the lift and install on the Rotator. One problem I have is the lack of secure storage space. I'm dealing with this by making some storage space under my house, which is secure and in most areas dry. Removed the bonnet and the boot lid. Some areas of the boot worry me and I'm concerned that it may cause some issues. It's obvious that something has happened in the boot area and I suspect that it has had a rear-end. Took the fuel tank off and hit it with a wire cup brush. Some rust and in some places small pinholes. I'm sure these could be fixed with some POR15 or something similar, but I'm wondering if I shouldn't just replace it. I don't have to make that decision right away so I'll give that some more thought and take some more advice.
While I was carrying the tank around, I noticed it had a rattle. I assumed that it was the sender unit float moving around. But this started to sound a little bigger and I tipped it over and it became obvious that there was something big in there that shouldn't have been. I took of the sender unit and peeked in with a torch (flashlight) and could see a very large piece of sheet metal that had to have been in there from the start. It looked like a baffle piece that had been removed and cut up with a pair of tinsnips. Strange, you can see one end of it here: http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n255/sweep_2006/Tank/PICT0824.jpg Disgruntled employee perhaps?
I may be able to get the chain block from Graham this weekend, but we'll see.
