The engine stand (and lots of other things I've made) has been constructed out of offcuts of 65mm sq. tube that are random lengths up to about 500mm long. So the material has, for the most part, dictated the size and shape of this project.
To extend the length I used 3 more pieces in a 'Y' shape to give me a extension about 600mm long - long enough to mount a support to the g/box later on.
The the issue of the rear engine support was accomplished with 2 pieces of 25mm sq. about 450mm long vertically and a piece of angle bolted across the top of these to pick up the 1" hole in the upper part of the engine back plate.
This hole is above the gearbox so it won't interfere with the g/box attachment.
I had to make a special nut/washer to go into the back of this hole to bolt the angle to it as the support.
I ended up buying new castors for the stand, 1 swivel 2 fixed and I bolted these on.
The transfer from one stand to the other was very easy. The chain block is so easy to use and I supported the engine with a sling made from a tow cable I had.
The last thing I've still to do is fabricate the support for the g/box, but I don't need that for a little while so I'll leave that for a bit.
I'm pleased with how it's gone and the photos tell the rest of the story.
