On holidays here, so I've got a bit of time to work on the MGB. Dug out the innards of the doors and cleaned them up and re-greased them.
Had a few issues with working out how they went back together but with the help of the manuals, the pics I took during disassembly and the pics I've collected from other cars, I managed to get one whole door assembled and back on the car.
I had to take it off because the holes holding the vent window frame didn't line up after I had repaired it all those months ago. I couldn't get a file into the end of the door while it was on the car.
No matter, this made it easier to assemble the bits while it was sitting on it's side on a table.
I made a small tool to locate the holes for the door panels from a loop of strap steel with a spike in one side and a hole in the other and I works perfectly. I found all the holes easily but I wasn't happy with the positioning of some of them so I moved some of them to make the spacing more uniform and an equal distance from the edge of the door.
That was yesterday.
Today I intended to do the other door but I started on making the inner door handles. I've never liked the little hinged door handles and intended to see about getting or making a handle/arm rest.
Using some maple pieces I made up some handles and covered them with foam and black vinyl. They will be attached with 2 screws from the back of the panel and two bolts going into the door.
I've got them attached to the panels but need to buy some suitable 3/16" screws 1 3/4" long to go from the front into the door.
I'm pretty pleased how they came out. It was a bit of a challenge to stretch the vinyl over them and minimise the wrinkling.
It went OK with most of the wrinkling either on the bottom or in the inner curve.
