A very restorable basket-case. Engine seized. Rear brakes at least partially seized. Latest addition to the Spring Creek Home for Wayward MGs, this car is indeed Wayward. We know only that it was under single ownership from 1966 until 1979 when it was retired following an engine failure. Somewhere along the line, it was left exposed, without a hood, in a Detroit backyard for three years.
At sometime following, the car was rescued and hauled to a barn in the Houghton Lake, Michigan area. When Rowdies member, Mark Barnhart, moved to the area, he heard rumors of the car languishing in some barn, but it took him six years to run the car down. At that point, he bought the car only to protect it's stewardship. He had no room or time for yet another project.
The car was advertised to Rowdies members and the rest is history. The car now resides in my shop - in need of a lot of love, but as restoration candidates go, it is very solid. The seized 1622 is still there; the interior is largely missing. Sills and doglegs need replacement, but the chassis appears solid. We'll see...
