  • Tub repair for GT32, July 2007

  • On Spring Thaw 2010, first drive with the V6!

Friday, April 29th 2010 she moved under her own power for the first time with the V6, to begin a 1400km shakedown cruise!

As of mid October 2010, she has just over 4000kms on the new drive train. Minor teething issues have required a new O2 sensor, a washer under the tranny mount, sealing two vacuum leaks, and the original throttle cable is a bit sticky.

Hi Duncan,

Did you use a kit for your MGA installation? How hard was it to do?

My email is darianhenderson@gmail.com if you prefer that.

Thanks,

Darian

No, I'm not sure if a kit exists for the MGA. It was hard in some ways, not in others! Harder than an MGB conversion to be sure, because the engine compartment is smaller on the MGA. For example, the MGB has more vertical room than an MGA, especially if we're talking about an earl, "flat bonnet" example like mine! In addition, the MGA has the "goal post" frame members arcing diagonally up and back through the area often occupied by headers! So, a 60* engine seems nearly a must (I'd prefer not to cut those frame members). Otherwise, I bet it was not more or less difficult than an MGB conversion - except that my floorboards and tunnel come out, which make fitting the tranny and creating the exhaust somewhat easier!
Check out these "compilation threads" where I've answered questions about how I did it in the MGA:

Hope that helps,
Duncan
